A Christmas Message from St. Lachteen's N.S.
We have loved learning lámh sign language over the last term in every class. All classes and staff really enjoyed learning the lámh signs for "All I Want For Christmas". We hope you enjoy our video compilation of all the children in our school performing with lámh signs. Nollaig Shona agus Athbhliain faoi mhaise daoibh!

Subtraction with Renaming
3rd class are working on subtraction with renaming in school at the moment. Parents may have used the 'borrow, pay back' method and this might cause some confusion with homework. Here is a link to a short tutorial on this topic.

We took a trip around the school to look at some of the bird feeders around the grounds.
Seesaw
Parents you would have received information by now in relation to SeeSaw. We will continue to utilise this online platform for teaching and learning this year as part of our approach to blended learning. The feedback from parents and children in relation to the SeeSaw activities last year was extremely positive and we look forward to using it again this year. Each pupil will get an activity each week to complete.

A Very Special First Holy Communion
Our third class celebrated a very special First Holy Communion on the 19th of September. Due to Covid restrictions on the original date, their First Holy Communion was postponed until their return to school. The children put in a huge effort to learn their prayers, navigate how to receive their communion in their hands and complete lovely artwork in the short lead-up time for their ceremony. God's blessings shone down on them through the beautiful sunshine that came out just after the ceremony ended and the parents' association very kindly provided lovely goody-bags for each child.
Thank you to Fr. Riordan for a lovely ceremony and to all the staff who played a role in preparing the children.

First day in Junior Infants
A huge warm welcome to our new Junior Infant class. We had a fantastic morning in school. Have a look below at some photos from their first day.
' Thank You' Mrs. McCarthy
1st September, 2020. Today marks a very special date in the St. Lachteen’s calendar. Not only is it the long awaited day for returning to school after our unexpected closure due to Covid-19, but also the day that Mrs. McCarthy steps down from her role as Principal of our school. In her over 8 years’ tenure, Mrs. McCarthy has shown outstanding leadership in teaching and learning in our school.
During her time as principal, Deirdre has taught in the classroom and she has also been a fighting voice for children with special educational needs. She ensured that each and every child that came through the door of our school was given an equal opportunity and enabled them all reach their full potential in all aspects of their lives. Today, our school is a happy and welcoming place and that is in no small part to the inclusive ethos that Mrs. McCarthy instilled in all of us.
Mrs. McCarthy has overseen some wonderful renovations to the school, saw the staff and pupil numbers expand and put in to motion many new policies and positive changes to the school that we are all reaping the benefits of today. Mrs. McCarthy’s commitment to her role knew no bounds and we are so lucky to still have her expertise on staff.
Mrs McCarthy’s talents were not limited to the classroom, however. Deirdre is a fantastic orator, as seen at religious ceremonies and graduations over the years, but more impressively, she is no stranger to a shovel and brush on mornings of heavy snowfall in Donoughmore. On these mornings, Mrs. McCarthy is known to have arrived at school in the early hours – even by tractor, to clear pathways to ensure the safety of all children and staff. Mrs. McCarthy’s dedication to St. Lachteen’s was, and still is, unquestionable.
